The types of beach near Girne

Visit by day for the sand and clear water, keep to marked areas, take your litter with you, and follow the conservation signs. If you would like to see turtles, do it through the local conservation programme rather than disturbing the nests.

The swimming season on this coast runs broadly from around mid-May to the end of October. The sea is warmest in July, August and September, while late spring and September tend to be calmer and less crowded. Midsummer weekends are the busiest, so for a quieter beach aim for a weekday or the shoulder months.

Do you need a car?

A car or taxi makes beach days much easier, since most beaches are a short drive from central Girne rather than a walk. If you are not driving, a taxi there and back is straightforward — agree the return in advance.
